Booklore

Make space for an unexpected book

The best bookshops interrupt your intentions. You go in looking for one thing and find a subject you had not thought about, a photographer you did not know, a title that sends the afternoon somewhere else. That possibility is what makes Booklore a useful address for the R.E Edit.

At Galerie El Beqal, the shop combines a considered selection of books with workshops and events for adults and children. Its interests extend across writing, music, theatre, visual arts and storytelling, giving the shelves a life beyond the transaction of buying a book.

The setting encourages a closer look: shelves with visual density, a reading corner and the warmth of a space built around paper. We have a particular affection for places where design is encountered at this scale. A binding, a page layout or the rhythm of photographs can change the way you think about a room just as effectively as a visit to a showroom.

Allow time to browse without a shopping list. Look for something connected to Morocco, then something completely outside your usual field. A good studio library needs both. The books that become useful are not always the ones that appeared useful when you first picked them up.

Pair it with lunch at Farmers next door. It is one of the few places in the city where you can lose an hour quietly.
