Café Ben Ali & Dar des Arts
Coffee as an introduction
A café can be the easiest way into a larger world. You arrive for something familiar, then begin to notice the room, the work on the walls and the people using it. Café Ben Ali gives us that entry point into Dar des Arts, Dar Society’s Marrakech house.
The café sits within the property, with specialty coffee and an emphasis on Ethiopian Moka. Pour-over and espresso preparations offer different ways to approach the same ingredient. Around that daily ritual, the wider project brings hospitality into contact with art and cultural gatherings.
We are interested in the threshold between those uses. A house that accommodates both a casual coffee and a more deliberate encounter with culture can become part of a city’s everyday life. The important detail is the invitation: there should be a reason to step inside even when you have no grand plan for the afternoon.
Begin with the café, then explore what the house is presenting at the time of your visit. Programmes change, and that is part of the attraction. The small daily pleasure of a coffee gives you a way into the larger setting: a few minutes at a table can become the beginning of an afternoon.
