Invisible Collection, New York
The Townhouse & the Steinway Tower Penthouse · New York

Invisible Collection, New York

Collectible design, at home in two very different addresses.

Invisible Collection shows its designers in New York the way they are meant to be lived with: in rooms rather than on plinths. There are two addresses, and they could hardly be more different.

The Townhouse, at 24 East 64th Street on the Upper East Side, was designed with Olivier Garcé and Clio Dimofski. Its 1,752 square feet are defined by simple geometries and natural materials. The Grand Salon on the first floor hosts solo shows, the room overlooking the garden holds a rotating selection of the collection’s best-known pieces, and the ground floor is a library created with 7L, the bookshop founded by Karl Lagerfeld, on shelves in wood and ceramic by Garcé & Dimofski.

The Penthouse sits at the top of Steinway Tower, 111 West 57th Street: SHoP Architects’ exceptionally slender tower rising beside Warren & Wetmore’s historic Steinway Hall, with building interiors by Studio Sofield. The 6,512-square-foot duplex was designed by Edoardo Mapelli Mozzi and his studio Banda, and furnished entirely with pieces from Invisible Collection’s designers.

Craft holds its own against the view. In the living room, Studio MTX’s Leaves panels filter Central Park through a translucent metal weave; the dining room has its circular Séquence mirror, and the master bedroom the two-metre Coda mirror, threaded with two hundred and fifty pale gold tubes.

The roster is the reason to visit: Garcé & Dimofski, Charles Zana, Laura Gonzalez, Thierry Lemaire, Aline Asmar d’Amman, Noé Duchaufour-Lawrance, Damien Langlois-Meurinne, Emmanuelle Simon, Charlotte Biltgen, Osanna Visconti and Ozone, alongside re-editions of Jean-Michel Frank, Pierre Chareau and Oscar Niemeyer by Etel. Chanel’s Maisons d’Art from le19M, Goossens, Lemarié, Lesage Intérieurs and Studio MTX, bring couture techniques into furniture, lighting and wall panels.

Both are visited by appointment. The question to take through the door: which piece changes how you see the room?
